Perhaps you do not think that you would use more than the 2, 3, or 4 standard USB ports on your computer. Well, I used to think the same way too up to now. I have 4 USB ports on my personal computer. I use two flash drives, a USB mouse, & another one to hook up with the printer.
Since I bought a new digital camera & a multi card reader; to use them, I have to take out either one of my existing computer equipment. It is not convenient. We humans like convenience.
