AMD 45nm Chips Released in Second Half 2008

It is not likely that the AMD 45nm chip scheduled release in second half of 2008 offer any real benefits over the readily available Intel Penryns (Intel Core 2 Duo). Although AMD had mentioned the benefits of its new 45nm technology offerings; it could very well be the usual marketing talk doing its work.

Some things that the new AMD 45nm technology offers to users:

• Drive costs down
• AMD to deliver increased level 3 cache
• Improved instructions per clock (IPC)
• Increased hyper transport speed
• Enhanced energy efficiency

AMD has more often than not, been seen to play second fiddle to Intel & the new AMD 45nm technology can perhaps at most, contribute to the company competing on the same level as it is used to against Intel. By the date AMD releases its 45nm chip forays, Intel would probably have new chip advancements up its sleeve to jump ahead of the pack yet again.
