The ZoneAlarm Firewall still does the same thing today but why did I just install it again on my computer? It is partly due to the article I read on somebody’s blog yesterday about a funny hacker threatening some folks on IRC, not that I use IRC. Anyway, real hackers can know your IP address & attack your computer, doing things like erasing your computer’s hard drive & etc. A firewall will make it more difficult for hackers to attack a targeted computer. Additionally, since I am frequenting coding sites online, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Who knows, some knowledgeable person or wannabe hacker from one of the sites decide to make my computer a testing ground. Thankfully, the situation had not happened to me in the past years where my computer was without firewall. It’s probably due to the fact that I’m not famous or rich enough online to be a target or I did not visit computer programming related sites. Note that it is possible that connecting to the internet will be slower than usual because it sure happened to mine in the beginning. A few days after, it seems to have returned to normal.
